Troy · Same-Day Service · Booking Now
Licensed Troy plumbers since 2006, with same-day service Monday through Friday across Lansingburgh, South Troy, and the Central Troy Historic District.
Local plumbing, done right
More than half of Troy’s homes were built before 1940 — the rowhouses of the Central Troy Historic District, the Victorian blocks of Lansingburgh, and the working-class streets of South Troy still run on plumbing laid down a century ago. That means corroded galvanized supply lines, low pressure, rusty water, and the kind of pinhole leaks that come back no matter how many times they’re patched. We repipe these homes in PEX or copper so you stop chasing the next failure down the line.
Troy also carries the Capital Region’s most serious lead story. The city is in active violation of the State Lead & Copper Rule, with 90th-percentile lead readings of 30.9 to 35.4 parts per billion in 2023 — more than double the 15 ppb action level — traced to lead service lines and old solder inside older homes, not the water mains. The city is mid-way through a $16.7 million program to pull roughly 1,100 lead service lines and has already replaced more than 550. We identify whether your line is lead, replace the customer-side run, and fit NSF-certified point-of-use lead filtration so the water at your tap is safe now, not whenever the street project reaches your block.
From water heaters and fixture swaps in RPI and Russell Sage rentals to gas-line work for ranges, dryers, and tankless units on National Grid’s network, we handle the everyday plumbing that keeps a Troy home running — and we pull the City of Troy permits that go with it.

Identified and replaced a customer-side lead service line for a pre-1940 home in Lansingburgh (ZIP 12182), then installed an NSF-certified point-of-use lead filter at the kitchen tap so the family had safe drinking water immediately.

Whole-home repipe in PEX for a 1920s rowhouse near the Central Troy Historic District — corroded galvanized supply lines were causing rusty water and weak pressure at every fixture; we ran the new lines through minimal wall openings and pressure-tested the system.

Replaced a failed gas water heater in a multi-unit RPI-area rental off the Sycaway side of town, sized the new unit for tenant demand, and brought the gas connection up to code with a City of Troy permit.

Restored water to a South Troy home off Burden Avenue after a copper supply line split in an unheated back-kitchen addition during a January cold snap. We cut out the frozen section, sweated in new copper, then insulated the run and added a dedicated shutoff so that wall can be isolated the next time temperatures drop below zero.

Good to know
It very likely could — Troy is in violation of the State Lead & Copper Rule, with 2023 lead readings well above the action level, and lead lines are common in the pre-1940 homes that make up over half the city. We test and identify your service line material, replace the customer-side run, and can fit NSF-certified lead filtration so your tap water is safe right away. The city also offers free lead testing through its Department of Public Utilities.
Almost never. Troy’s water comes from the Tomhannock Reservoir and is naturally low in minerals — the city doesn’t even publish a hardness number. The water issue in Troy is lead from old service lines and solder, so we recommend NSF-certified lead and contaminant filtration over a softener that wouldn’t solve the real problem.
That’s the classic sign of corroded galvanized supply pipe, which is standard in Troy’s older Lansingburgh, South Troy, and downtown housing. Once galvanized lines start rusting shut, patching one spot just moves the next leak down the line — a whole-home repipe in PEX or copper restores clean, full-pressure water for good.
On the coldest nights, let a faucet on an exterior wall run at a trickle, open the cabinet doors under those sinks so warm air reaches the pipes, and disconnect your garden hoses before winter. In older Troy homes the pipes most at risk run through uninsulated crawlspaces, back porches, and along basement rim joists — we can insulate those runs or add a heat cable so it isn’t a yearly gamble. If a line does freeze and burst, know where your main shutoff is and call us; we’ll get the water off and the pipe repaired.
For most work beyond a simple repair — water heater replacements, repiping, moving or adding fixtures — yes, the City of Troy requires a permit, and the work has to be done or supervised by a licensed plumber. We pull the permit and handle the inspection ourselves, so it’s done to code and on record. That paperwork also protects you later, since unpermitted plumbing can hold up a home sale.
