Sewage smells, water rising in a basement floor drain, or a toilet that won’t clear are also red flags that the main drain or sewer line needs to be rooted. A rooter cuts the roots back to the pipe wall and restores full flow, but it doesn’t kill the tree, so roots can eventually find their way back through the same cracks or pipe joints.
