East Greenbush · Same-Day Service · Booking Now
Licensed East Greenbush plumbers since 2006, with same-day service Monday through Friday across Hampton Manor, Clinton Heights, and the rural east end toward Schodack.
Local plumbing, done right
East Greenbush is two towns in one plumbing map. The built-up core off Columbia Turnpike and Route 4 — Hampton Manor, Clinton Heights, Clinton Park — leans on a big postwar and 1960s housing cohort, which means a generation of copper supply line that is now 55 to 65 years old and squarely in pinhole-leak territory. We repipe these homes in PEX or copper, replace tank and tankless water heaters, swap fixtures, and stop the slow drips before they become ceiling stains.
The older stock — the historic core and the pre-1960 streets around Hampton Manor and Clinton Park — often still runs galvanized-steel or cast-iron supply that rusts shut from the inside. That shows up as rusty water and weak pressure at every upstairs fixture, and patching one spot just moves the next leak down the line, so we repipe the affected runs in PEX or copper and restore full, clean pressure for good.
Because National Grid natural gas runs throughout the developed town, gas-line work is everyday plumbing here too — new runs for ranges, dryers, generators, and pool heaters, plus sediment traps and CSST bonding on older homes. And out on the rural east end toward Schodack, where homes sit off the public water grid on private wells, plumbing means water treatment as much as pipe. We pull the City of East Greenbush permits the work calls for and size every job to the house in front of us.

Whole-home copper-to-PEX repipe on a 1960s ranch in Clinton Heights where 60-year-old copper had thrown two pinhole leaks in a single winter. We ran the new PEX through minimal wall access, pressure-tested every line, and replaced the aging water heater on the same visit.

Galvanized supply replacement in a pre-1960 Hampton Manor home — rusted-out steel pipe had choked pressure at every upstairs fixture and was tinting the hot water brown. We repiped the affected runs to PEX, rebuilt two fixture connections, and pulled the East Greenbush permit.

Private-well water treatment on a rural east-end parcel toward Schodack — installed a softener plus iron and sulfur filtration to clear hard-water scale, orange staining, and rotten-egg odor, then tied in a new water heater for the household.

Failing main shutoff and pressure-reducing valve on a Defreestville colonial off Route 4 — the homeowner couldn't fully close the water to swap a bathroom faucet, and spiking street pressure was hammering the pipes at night. We replaced the seized old gate valve with a quarter-turn ball valve, set a new pressure-reducing valve to bring the house back to a safe range, and added a thermal expansion tank at the water heater.

Good to know
Usually not. Most of East Greenbush drinks treated Troy/Tomhannock surface water, which is soft to moderate — the water district doesn’t even publish a hardness number — so a softener rarely solves anything on city water. The exception is the rural east end around Best, Luther, and Couse Corners, where homes on private wells often do have hard, iron-stained, or sulfur-smelling water that treatment genuinely fixes. We test before we recommend anything.
It’s possible in the oldest pre-1940 homes. The town’s own service-line inventory still lists one confirmed lead line plus a number of unknown-material lines, so the risk is low but not zero. We identify whether your line is lead, replace the customer-side run, and can fit NSF-certified point-of-use filtration so your tap water is safe right away.
That’s the classic sign of corroded galvanized-steel or cast-iron supply pipe, common in the pre-1960 homes around Hampton Manor and Clinton Park. Once galvanized lines start rusting shut, patching one spot just sends the next leak down the line — a whole-home repipe in PEX or copper restores clean, full-pressure water for good.
For most work beyond a simple fixture swap — water heaters, repiping, new supply or drain lines, and any gas piping — yes, it goes through the Town of East Greenbush building department. We pull the permit and schedule the required inspection as part of the job, so you’re not chasing paperwork on your own. Permitted work by a licensed plumber also protects you down the road when you sell the house.
The pipes most at risk are the ones running through unheated crawl spaces, garages, and exterior walls. During a hard cold snap, keep the heat on, open the cabinet doors under sinks on outside walls, disconnect garden hoses in the fall, and let a faucet trickle overnight when it drops well below zero. If a pipe has frozen on you before, we can add pipe insulation, heat tape, or a frost-proof outdoor hose bib so it doesn’t happen again.
