Your local team
The Town of Schodack is one of the most split-personality service territories in Rensselaer County, and that split is exactly what dictates the plumbing, heating, cooling, and drain work a home here needs. Spread across about 64 square miles on the east bank of the Hudson River, Schodack is the county’s third-largest town: about 12,965 people scattered across deep-rural hamlets like East Schodack (the former Scotts Corners), South Schodack, Schodack Center, and Muitzeskill, plus the dense old riverfront Village of Castleton-on-Hudson. The housing stock runs from acreage farmhouses and mid-century ranches to the late-1800s and early-1900s homes packed into Castleton’s 0.71-square-mile village core, settled back in 1792. A home off Muitzes Kill and a home a block from the river are two completely different mechanical problems.
Water and sewer are where Schodack really diverges from a typical suburban town. Out in the rural interior, the majority of homes draw private wells off the Schodack Terrace Aquifer, an 18.75-square-mile glacial sand-and-gravel formation the town actively protects under its aquifer chapter; those homes run on well pumps, pressure tanks, and on-site septic systems regulated by Rensselaer County DOH. The Town itself operates three small public water districts, all fed by town-owned wells. Then there’s Castleton-on-Hudson, on its own municipal supply wells and a village sanitary sewer with a dedicated wastewater plant and five storm outfalls to the Hudson. So whether your concern is a short-cycling well pump, a failing leachfield, or a basement that backs up, the right fix depends entirely on which Schodack you live in.
Heating here is a fuel story before it’s an equipment story. Town-wide, the majority of homes still burn delivered fuel oil or propane, with natural gas reaching only a smaller share along the corridor and village; East Schodack runs almost entirely on oil and propane with almost no gas mains, while Schodack Landing, hugging the river-and-rail corridor, is where natural gas is most common. That means there’s no one-size heating pitch for this town. For cooling, the older Castleton homes and rural farmhouses that never had ductwork are natural candidates for ductless mini-splits, while newer subdivisions add central AC. Empire State Plumbing is a family-owned, licensed and insured shop based right up the US-20 corridor in Nassau, and we’ve built our Schodack service around these realities, not a generic suburban template. Call (518) 482-4205 for same-day service Monday through Friday.

Yes — ductless mini-splits are the practical way to cool the older Castleton homes and rural farmhouses here that were never built for central air, and we install central AC where ductwork already exists.
