Nassau · Same-Day Service · Booking Now
Local drain clearing, rooter, camera inspection and sewer-line repair for Nassau homes — same-day appointments Monday through Friday from a Rensselaer County team that has been licensed and doing this since 2006.
Local drain & sewer, done right
Nassau is one of the older housing markets in Rensselaer County, and that shapes nearly every drain and sewer call we run here. About a third of the town’s homes — roughly 34% — were built in 1939 or earlier, and close to half went up before 1960, with a median build year of 1961. In the Village of Nassau, East Nassau, and the hamlets like Hoags Corners, Brainard, and Alps, that means cast-iron drain-waste-vent stacks and clay or Orangeburg sewer laterals that have been in the ground for sixty, eighty, even a hundred years. When they scale shut, crack, or fill with roots, you get slow drains, gurgling fixtures, and backups that no amount of store-bought drain cleaner will touch.
That is the work we do here every week: power-rodding a clogged kitchen line or main, running a sewer camera to find exactly where an old clay or Orangeburg lateral has failed, and repairing or replacing the bad section instead of guessing. Nassau’s mature trees are the other half of the problem — roots find every cracked joint on these aging laterals, which is why a line will drain fine for a month and then back up again. A cable or rooter clears the immediate blockage, but on these older lines the real answer is a camera inspection to see what the pipe is made of, where it is broken, and whether it can be root-cut, jetted, spot-repaired, or needs replacement.
One thing that makes Nassau different from the older cities downriver: there is no municipal sanitary sewer here. Properties across the town and village run on private septic systems, so a backup almost never means a combined-sewer overflow — it means a septic problem, a root-clogged lateral, or groundwater pushing into a low basement. Knowing that going in is half the job, and it is the kind of thing a local crew that works these roads already understands before the truck pulls up.

Older home in the Village of Nassau where the homeowner was snaking the main line every few weeks. The camera found a cracked clay joint full of maple roots about eighteen feet out under a mature yard tree. We hydro-jetted the line clean, cut the roots back, and handed the owner the footage with a spot-repair quote for the failed joint instead of digging the whole lateral.

Lakeside property near Nassau Lake taking water into a low basement after spring snowmelt and heavy rain. The high water table on the shoreline lots was pushing groundwater toward the foundation. We installed a properly sized sump system and added a backwater valve so the next big storm would not put water back into the basement.

Mid-century house in East Nassau with a slow, gurgling whole-house drain and recurring clogs. The camera showed an Orangeburg lateral that had started to deform and collapse about twenty-five feet out, along with heavy scale in the original cast-iron stack. We jetted what we could to restore flow and quoted a sectional replacement of the failed Orangeburg run so it would stop backing up.

Ranch home in the Hoag Corners area of Nassau where the kitchen sink and the laundry standpipe kept backing up together every couple of months. The camera showed the branch line under the slab choked with hardened grease and soap scale, and there was no outside cleanout to reach it without pulling a fixture. We hydro-jetted the line back to bare pipe and added a proper ground-level cleanout so the next service call won't mean going through the basement or lifting a toilet.

Good to know
On the older laterals around the Village of Nassau, East Nassau, and the hamlets, the line is usually aging clay or Orangeburg pipe, and Nassau’s mature trees send roots straight into the cracked joints. A cable or rooter clears the blockage, but the roots grow back. We run a sewer camera to find exactly where they are getting in, then root-cut or hydro-jet the line and quote a spot repair on that section so you can stop snaking the same drain every month.
The low-lying lakeside lots around Nassau Lake and Burden Lake sit in high-water-table ground, so spring snowmelt and heavy rain push groundwater toward those basements. The fix is usually two parts: a properly sized sump system so the groundwater has somewhere to go, and a backwater valve to block reverse flow on the drain side. We size both to your home, and financing is available through Acorn Finance if it is a larger job. Call us at (518) 482-4205.
Yes. There is no municipal sanitary sewer in Nassau, so a backup here is almost always a root-clogged lateral, a slow interior stack, or a septic problem — not a combined-sewer overflow like the older cities. We clear and camera the drain lines between the house and the tank, troubleshoot drainfield and septic backup issues, and tell you exactly what is failing. If you are near Nassau Lake, there is also a county septic-replacement grant for shoreline properties that may help cover the cost of a system that has reached the end of its life.
Snaking, or cabling, punches through a clog to get you flowing again, and that’s often all a simple one-time stoppage needs. Hydro-jetting uses high-pressure water to scour the full inside of the pipe, so it’s the right call for grease, scale, or root fuzz that keeps coming back. We usually run the camera first so we’re not guessing, and if a quick cable clears it and the line looks clean, that’s all you pay for. We only recommend jetting when the pipe walls really need it.
Yes, especially with the older clay and Orangeburg laterals that are common around here, since a standard home inspection doesn’t cover what’s underground past the foundation. We run the camera the full length of the line and show you the footage, so before closing you know whether you’re inheriting roots, a sagging belly, or a failing joint. It’s a lot cheaper to find a bad lateral during negotiations than to discover it after you own the place.
Across the area
We also clear drains, run sewer cameras, and handle septic-side lateral work for nearby Rensselaer County towns — including East Nassau, East Greenbush, and Schodack.
