Saratoga Springs · Same-Day Service · Booking Now
Local drain clearing, rooter, camera inspection and sewer-line repair across 12866, the East Side, West Side, and downtown Broadway — same-day appointments Monday through Friday from a Capital Region team that has been licensed and doing this since 2006.
Local drain & sewer, done right
Saratoga Springs has one of the oldest housing stocks in the Capital Region — roughly 27 to 28 percent of homes were built before 1940 — and that age is exactly what we run into underground. In the East Side, West Side, Union Avenue, and Franklin Square historic districts, the Victorian and Colonial homes were originally drained through cast-iron stacks inside the house and clay (and, in some eras, Orangeburg) sewer laterals out to the street. After a century those pipes corrode, scale up, sag, and crack at the joints, and that is where the recurring backups and slow whole-house drains start. Our everyday drain work in these neighborhoods is cabling and rooting the immediate blockage, then running a camera to see what the line is actually made of and where it is failing.
The single biggest backup driver here is tree roots in the lateral. The mature elms and maples lining Circular Street, Union Avenue, and the downtown blocks sit right over those old clay joints, and roots find every crack — you get a line that drains fine for a month and then backs up again. A rooter clears it today, but on these century-old laterals the real answer is a camera inspection plus hydro-jetting to cut the roots back to the pipe wall, followed by a targeted spot repair on the failed section instead of digging up the whole yard.
Saratoga Springs is a separated sanitary system, not the combined sewers you find in the older cities downriver. The city is a designated MS4 — storm drainage is kept separate from the sanitary sewer, which flows out to the Saratoga County Sewer District in Mechanicville. That matters for diagnosis: there are no combined-sewer overflows surcharging the whole street in a storm, so when a Saratoga Springs basement backs up, the cause is almost always your own private lateral — roots, a failed joint, grease, or groundwater infiltration — and that is something we can find and fix at the house.

Recurring backup at a pre-1940 home in the East Side Historic District near Circular Street. The camera found heavy tree-root intrusion at two joints in an aging clay lateral under a big curbside maple, plus a cracked section about thirty feet out. We hydro-jetted the roots back to the pipe wall, cleared the line to full flow, and handed the owner the footage with a spot-repair quote on the two failed joints instead of trenching the whole front yard.

Slow, gurgling drains throughout an older Victorian off Union Avenue. The original cast-iron stack had scaled up internally over decades and a section near the floor had corroded through. We camera-inspected the line, descaled it back to full bore, and spot-replaced the worst cast-iron section with PVC, staging the work around the home's historic plaster so the drains ran clean again without tearing up finished space.

Backed-up finished basement on a downtown block where the sanitary lateral, not a storm overflow, was the culprit — this is a separated MS4 sewer city, so the problem was the home's own line. We jetted out a grease-and-root blockage in the old clay lateral, then sized and installed a backwater (check) valve plus a sump system so the finished basement stops taking on water when the line is stressed or the spring water table rises.

Repeated kitchen-side backups at a 1970s ranch in the Geyser Crest neighborhood. Our camera found a belly — a low, sagging spot in the buried line where the pipe had settled over the years and was holding standing water, so grease and solids kept collecting there instead of flowing out. We jetted the line clean, then spot-dug just the failed section, re-bedded about eight feet of pipe on proper stone, and re-pitched it so waste runs downhill again instead of pooling.

Good to know
In the pre-1940 East Side, West Side, Union Avenue, and Franklin Square homes, the sewer lateral is usually aging clay or cast iron, and the mature trees along those streets send roots straight into the old joints. A cable or rooter clears the blockage, but the roots grow back, so you snake the same line over and over. We run a camera to find exactly where they are getting in, hydro-jet the roots and scale back to the pipe wall, and quote a targeted spot repair on the failed section so you can stop fighting the same backup. Call (518) 482-4205 and we will get to you the same day when we can, Monday through Friday.
No — Saratoga Springs is a separated MS4 system, meaning storm drainage is kept separate from the sanitary sewer, which flows out to the Saratoga County Sewer District in Mechanicville. There are no combined-sewer overflows surcharging the street here, so when a basement backs up, the cause is almost always your own private lateral: roots, a failed or bellied joint, grease, or groundwater infiltration. That is good news, because it is a problem we can camera, locate, and fix at your house rather than waiting on the city.
If it is a one-time clog, a cable or rooter is often enough. But on the century-old clay and cast-iron laterals common in the older Saratoga Springs districts, repeated backups mean something structural — roots at a joint, a cracked or bellied section, or scaled-up cast iron. A camera inspection shows exactly what the pipe is made of and where it is failing, so you are not paying to dig blind. From there we can root-cut, hydro-jet, spot-repair, or replace, and financing is available through Acorn Finance if it turns into a larger lateral job.
We start with a camera inspection so we know exactly what we’re dealing with before anyone touches your yard. A lot of problems — roots, grease, scale — clear with hydro-jetting and no digging at all. When the pipe itself is damaged, we can often spot-dig a single failed joint or run a trenchless liner instead of trenching the whole run; full open-cut is a last resort we save for a line that’s collapsed or too far gone to save.
There’s no one-size number, and we won’t sell you a schedule you don’t need. If you’ve got an older Saratoga home with a clay lateral and mature trees over the line, a camera check every couple of years — or any time drains start running slow or gurgling — usually catches root intrusion before it turns into a backup. A newer PVC line in an open lot can go a long time between service; we’d rather look, tell you it’s fine, and move on.
