Hudson · Same-Day Service · Booking Now
Ductless mini-splits and central AC for Hudson's older homes — licensed since 2006, with same-day service Monday through Friday across Columbia County.
Local cooling, done right
Hudson is one of the oldest housing markets in the Hudson Valley: 53% of the city’s homes were built in 1939 or earlier. The brick and wood-frame rowhouses along Warren Street, the Federal and Italianate homes inside the Hudson Historic District, and the 1783 core down around Front Street and Parade Hill were built to be heated by steam and hot-water radiators — which means most of them have no ductwork at all. That’s the central fact of cooling in Hudson, and it’s why a ductless mini-split is the right answer for so much of the city.
For these radiator-heated homes we mount slim indoor heads room by room and run a single thin line set out to a compact outdoor unit — cooling the spaces you actually live in without cutting into original plaster, trim, or the historic interiors that drew so many buyers to Hudson in the first place. The wave of NYC-buyer renovations and short-term-rental conversions has produced plenty of gut-rehabs too, and where a project has opened the walls or already runs ductwork, we install and replace conventional central AC instead. We tell you straight which one fits your house.
Empire State Plumbing has worked Hudson and the rest of Columbia County since 2006. We’re licensed (City of Albany #PLBG21-147), we quote flat-rate up front, and financing through Acorn Finance lets you spread the cost of a multi-zone mini-split or a full central AC system over time.
What we handle
Every service below links to the full page for that job. We keep one canonical page per service rather than a thin copy for each city, so you get the real detail.

Where we serve
We dispatch to Hudson from our shop in Nassau on US-20. Real address, real phone, no fake storefront. Nassau is our licensed home base. Hudson is part of our service area, dispatched same-day across the surrounding Capital Region.

Cooled a Warren Street-area rowhouse with no existing ductwork by installing a multi-zone ductless mini-split — one compact outdoor unit feeding slim wall heads in the parlor floor and two upstairs bedrooms, so the radiator-heated home finally had real cooling without opening a single plaster wall.

Installed matched central AC in a gut-renovated historic home near the Hudson Historic District where the project had already opened the walls and run ductwork — sized the condenser and coil to the humid riverfront summer and verified cooling at every supply register before leaving.

Set up per-unit ductless zoning for a Hudson two-family STR conversion and paired it with a whole-home dehumidifier, so each unit controls its own temperature and the damp stone-foundation basement stays dry through the muggy summer months.

Chased down a central AC that couldn't keep up during a July hot stretch at a Union Street home — we found a refrigerant leak at the evaporator coil and a clogged condensate drain backing water into the pan. We replaced the leaking coil, cleared and re-piped the drain line, and recharged the system to spec, so the second floor finally held its temperature through the heat.

Good to know
Yes. More than half of Hudson’s homes were built before 1939 to run on steam or hot-water radiators, so the rowhouses around Warren Street and the older homes inside the Historic District have no ducts. For those homes a ductless mini-split is the answer — slim indoor heads and a single thin line set to an outdoor unit, no plaster walls to tear open. We size the number of zones to the rooms you actually use.
If your house already has ductwork — common in gut-renovated historic homes where a project opened the walls, or in newer postwar builds — we install or replace a matched central AC system tied to that ductwork. Hudson’s renovation and short-term-rental wave has produced a lot of these shells. During the free estimate we check the existing ducts and tell you straight whether central AC or ductless fits your home.
Hudson summers run humid off the river, with July highs around 81°F, and that moisture collects in the stone-foundation basements found across the city’s pre-1939 homes and the low-lying Bridge District and South Bay areas. A properly sized mini-split or central system pulls humidity out as it cools, and for the dampest homes we add whole-home dehumidification so the air feels dry and comfortable, not just cold.
Heat rises, and a lot of Hudson’s older two- and three-story homes were set up with one thermostat and undersized or leaky ductwork, so the top floor never gets its fair share of cool air. We start by measuring airflow at the upstairs registers — sometimes it’s a duct that needs sealing or a return that’s too small, and sometimes the honest fix is adding a ductless mini-split head to cool that floor on its own. We’ll tell you which it is before you spend money on the wrong one.
It depends on the unit’s age and what’s failing. If it still runs on the old R-22 refrigerant, a leak repair gets expensive fast because that refrigerant is no longer made, and a system past about twelve to fifteen years usually costs more to keep patching than it’s worth. We’ll give you the repair cost and an honest comparison against a newer, more efficient system so you can decide — we won’t push a replacement you don’t need.

We also cool homes just beyond the city across Columbia County — in Greenport, Claverack, and Germantown.
